absurdex: A Virtual Asset Exchange Built for Fun

2026-05-17

Honestly, even now I'm not quite sure how to define this project. I think it's closest to a mix of financial game, exhibition, and art experiment.

I designed a whole set of market mechanics along with a handful of tradable assets. None of them are pegged to anything of real-world value, but each comes with its own strange rules. For example: Schrödinger randomly goes up or down by 20% with 50/50 odds whenever a user buys in (new users get 10,000 points to start with); Moon Rat's price fluctuates between -2% and +0.2% on every trade, but has a one-in-a-thousand chance of jumping 10x outright; Growth's price rises as more players join; and so on.

My initial idea was to run this as an ongoing project, and if people actually got interested, I'd roll out new batches of assets every so often. But I eventually realized that even though I'd poured quite a bit of time and energy into designing the closed beta, almost no one around me cared... So I might end up turning it into a sandbox instead, dropping in a few hundred bots with different strategies and just watching them trade against each other. Of course, if anyone does want to try it, the site is open and you can jump right in.
